8. Manaslu Base Camp Trek (Nepal)

Stacked stones on rocky terrain with snowy mountains and clear blue sky.

Trek Overview

Journey to  Manaslu, the world's eighth-highest mountain, known as  the "Mountain of the Spirit" in this spectacular circuit trek. The  Manaslu Base Camp trek, often combined with the Manaslu Circuit, is one  of Nepal's best trekking experiences. This restricted area trek offers  stunning mountain scenery, rich Tibetan Buddhist culture, and diverse  landscapes in a less-crowded setting.

Key Information

  • Summit Elevation: 8,163 m (26,781 ft)
  • Base Camp Altitude: ~ 4,800 m (15,748 ft)
  • Highest Trekking Point:  Larkya La Pass (~ 5,160 m)  - via Manaslu Circuit
  • Duration: ~10-15 days
  • Difficulty Rating: Moderate to Hard
  • Best Season: March-May and September-November
  • Starting Point: Machha Khola, Nepal
  • Total trekking distance (return): ~180-200 km

Trek Highlights

  • Circle the magnificent Manaslu massif
  • Cross the dramatic Larkya La Pass (~5,160 m)
  • Experience authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture
  • Visit ancient monasteries and traditional villages
  • Stunning views of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Annapurna ranges

What to Expect

This trek offers an alternative to the more crowded  Annapurna Base Camp route. You'll trek through lush forests, terraced  fields, and traditional Gurung and Tibetan villages before reaching the  high-altitude landscapes near Manaslu Base Camp. Crossing the mountain  pass of  Larkya La is challenging but rewards you with panoramic views  of multiple 8,000m peaks.
