Sunset light touches snow-covered mountain peaks with rocky foreground.

Trek Overview

A remote and challenging trek leads you to the base of this  pyramid‑shaped giant, the world’s fifth‑highest mountain. The Makalu  Base Camp trek is one of Nepal’s most spectacular yet demanding  journeys. Located within the remote Makalu‑Barun National Park, the  route takes you through remarkably diverse ecosystems—from lush tropical  forests to stark high‑altitude glaciers.

Key Information

  • Summit Elevation: 8,485 m (27,838 ft)
  • Base Camp Altitude: ~4,870 m (~15,978 ft)
  • Highest Trekking Point:  Makalu Base Camp
  • Duration: ~15-20 days
  • Difficulty Rating: Hard
  • Best Season: March-May and September-November
  • Starting Point: Tumlingtar, Nepal

What to Expect

This trek offers a true wilderness adventure with minimal  infrastructure along the route.
