2. K2 Base Camp Trek (Pakistan)

Trek Overview

Known as the “Savage Mountain,” K2 is the  world’s second‑highest peak and considered by many mountaineers the most  challenging to climb. The K2 Base Camp trek is one of the most remote  and spectacular trekking adventures on Earth. Located in the Karakoram  Range along the Pakistan–China border, the route leads you across the  vast Baltoro Glacier to the foot of the legendary mountain.


(Note: K2's North Base Camp is located in Xinjiang, China).

  • Base Camp Altitude: ~5,150 m (~16,896 ft)

  • Duration: ~16-20 days

  • Starting Point: Askole, Pakistan
  • Total trekking distance (return): ~180 km

What to Expect

This trek shares the same route for the base camps of Broad Peak  and Gasherbrum I and II, making it one of the most spectacular mountain  journeys in the world. You’ll traverse rugged terrain, cross vast  glacial moraines, and camp in remote wilderness along the way. The  reward is unparalleled mountain scenery and the rare privilege of  standing at the foot of one of mountaineering’s greatest challenges. 

Example 16-Day Itinerary (start/end Islamabad, Pakistan)

 Same approach for Broad Peak and most of Gasherbrum I and II base camps)


  • Day 1: Fly Islamabad (~666 m)→ Skardu (~2,230 m)
  • Day 2: Drive Skardu → Askole (~3,040 m)
  • Day 3: Askole → Jhola (~3,200 m)
  • Day 4: Jhola → Paiju (~3,400 m)
  • Day 5: Rest / acclimatization at Paiju
  • Day 6: Paiju → Urdukas (~4,050 m)
  • Day 7: Urdukas  → Goro II (~4,380 m)
  • Day 8: Goro II → Concordia (~4,600 m)
  • Day 9: Concordia → K2 Base Camp (5,150 m) → Return to Concordia
  • Day 10: Concordia → Goro II (~4,380 m)
  • Day 11: Goro II → Urdukas (~4,050 m)
  • Day 12: Urdukas → Paiju (~3,400 m)
  • Day 13: Paiju → Jhola (~3,200 m)
  • Day 14: Jhola → Askole (~3,040 m)
  • Day 15: Drive Askole → Skardu (~2,228 m)
  • Day 16: Fly Skardu → Islamabad (~666 m)
